NFL 4 Hook Denver/Miami OVER 38.5 Denver starts off their season with a trip to Miami to take on the Dolphins. Over the last few years, this has been a great match-up no matter how good or bad the teams are. This will be Nick Saban’s first real game with the Dolphins and he looks to make a big impression with the fans. Doesn’t matter when or where these teams meet, they can score some points. Now granted Miami’s offense isn’t the strongest, they still can manage to put points on the board. Denver’s offense on the other hand, is quite strong and can put points up on teams in a hurry. Both defenses are strong but give up points pretty easily. Though this might not be a 31-28 ball game, the total is still too low for these two teams. This game is easily a 24-21 ball game or at worst a 24-17 game. Both teams have offenses that can drive the ball down the field and get points on the board either with a touchdown or field goal every time they touch the ball. Miami’s offense should be better than last year which is worth at least a touchdown or more better than the 20-17 score of last year. Look for this game to be in the 40's by the time the game is over. This total should be around 41 or so, but since it is at 38.5, take advantage of this easy OVER.
Miami 34 Denver 10 The surprise here is not so much the over but the manhandling the Dolphins put on the Broncos. Plummer looked horrible as did the whole Broncos team. They never got anything going and had trouble stopping a Dolphin team that couldn’t score touchdowns last year. The OVER was made at the end of the game and we are thankful for that. In all honesty, it really should have been and easy OVER if Denver would have shown up.
NFL 4 Hook St. Louis -6@ San Francisco The Rams start off the new season by traveling to their rival, the 49ers. These two teams really haven’t like each other since the days of the Rams being in L.A. No matter the records or the year, this usually ends up being a good game. When the first lines came out early this summer, the Rams were 3 point favorites. Now, the line has climbed all the way up to 6. That climb will make no difference in the outcome of the game. The Rams are simply a better team. They are stronger, faster, and deeper and especially more experienced. The 49ers are a young team and are still in a rebuilding process. The Rams looked solid in the preseason and will take their confidence they built up into the first game of the year. The Rams will travel to S.F. and go home with a big victory. The Rams will start off the season playing good ball and should win by at least 2 touchdowns.
49ers 28 Rams 25 Are you kidding me? Who was the team that looked like they won two games last year? If I weren’t mistaken I would think the Rams only won two games last year. They looked horrible. Did they over look the Niners? Hopefully so because if they didn’t, they are going to be in for a long year.
NFL 4 Hooks Kansas City/NY Jets Over 47.5 Both offenses will find room to run and throw. This game will be about who can make one stop on defense. The over/under on punts should be around 4 for the game. Kansas City is supposed to be better on defense; I am not buying it. They will win the game by scoring 30 plus points and pounding the ball in the 4th quarter. Pennington is ready and will be able to exploit the weak defense of Kansas City. I expect at least two TD's over 35 yards this week. The running game has always been solid so expect 150 yards and two scores from Curtis Martin.
Kansas City 27 - New York Jets 7 What the heck is going on, does Kansas City really have a defense? I am not buying it, too many mistakes in the redzone on both sides or else this game would have flown over the total of 47.5. This one will hurt for a while. Both teams had nearly 400 yards of offense each and could only muster a total of 34 points. OUCH!
NFL 3 Hook Oakland @ New England -7.5 What a game to start off the NFL season. The new look Raiders, with the addition of Randy Moss, travel to New England to take on the Super Bowl champion Patriots. This game should be entertaining to say the least. Doesn’t get any better on a Thursday night! Though the Raiders have a new look, they are still the same Raiders. Yes, they will put points up on the board but unfortunately; their defense is still the same. Their defense is getting a little older and in the last few years, have had trouble stopping teams from scoring. This is a big test for the Raiders. The Patriots on the other hand, are still the Patriots. Yes, they have lost a few key players but they always seem to be able to fill up the holes real quick. Tom Brady is still Tom Brady and will exploit the Raiders defense with precision passing and play calling. Cory Dillon will be able to find running lanes and will eat up the Raiders’ defense. The Raiders will compete for a bit with the Patriots but in the end the Patriots will pull away with just more winning experience. This by no means will be a blowout since the Raiders can put up points in a hurry but the Patriots know what it takes to win and should win this game by at least 10 points. Take the Pats.
New England 30 - Oakland 20 A great game from start to finish but the Pats were the stronger team and it showed. The Raiders made a game out of it and got it within 10 and were an onside kick away from making some people sweat. A few mistakes from the Raiders helped the Pats make the cover but for the most part the Pats were the stronger team and made some great plays throughout the game to make the cover.
NFL 3 Hook Philadelphia -2@ Atlanta A great first Monday Night match up. Both these teams are considered Super Bowl contenders. No matter what happens in this game, both these teams will go deep into the playoffs. The winner of this game will have 1 win in the right direction. The Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl loss last year and a rocky preseason with all the turbulence Owens brought to camp. Even with all the crap that went on, the only game McNabb and Owens played together, they dominated. The Falcons and Michael Vick are out to prove last year was no fluke. This is tough first game for the Falcons to prove they are for real. The Eagles, even with all the turbulence, are still the favorite to come out of the NFC. Can the Falcons stop the passing attack of the Eagles? Too much experience by the Eagles will be a major factor. The Eagles are a good bet here and should win this game by a touchdown. The Eagles will go to Atlanta on Monday night and go home with a victory.
Falcons 14 Eagles 10 An ugly game just like many games we saw this weekend in the NFL. Missed opportunities killed the Eagles. Two missed field goals and it’s a different story. The Falcons looked tough but deep down the Eagles are a better team, they just didn’t come out and prove it and it cost them.
NFL 3 Hook Green Bay +3 @ Detroit Brett Favre takes his Packers to Detroit to take on rival Detroit. This has always been a good game no matter what the season especially when it comes to playing in the dome in Detroit. The Lions are looking to have a solid year and challenge for a playoff spot. Green Bay is just looking to continue what they have been doing for years and that’s winning. Over the course of Favre’s career, he hasn’t been a solid quarterback in domes. But in 2004, he proved that he can play in domes and all the trends tell lies. Detroit fell victim to Favre’s new love for domes by getting handed a 38-10 loss as a 3 point favorite. And what a surprise, that is what the spread is this year as well. Still people don’t believe Favre can cut it playing in domes. Look for Favre to come out firing and look for the Packers to be covering this spread, if not win the game outright.
Detroit 17 Green Bay 3 This is one game Brett Favre wishes he could have over. In fact, it’s probably a game the whole Packers team wishes they could have over. An ugly game from start to finish. The Lions just wanted it more and the score showed. If the Packers decided to show up it could have been a different story.
NFL 3 Hooks Philadelphia/Atlanta Over 41.5 I know that Atlanta has a good defense but I like McNabb to go off this Monday Night. When this happens then you will see a ton of points on the board. This is more of a gut pick and the fact that I like the Eagles offense to average over 28 points this year. Owens will want to show off in Prime Time and will be in the endzone at least once. Vick will not want to be shown up so he will have his guys ready to go. If Atlanta gets out in front then I see them trying to run the ball and shorten the game. I think they will fall behind and be forced into the passing game which will help the total be reached. Both teams will be in the 20's and the over will be covered.
Atlanta 14 - Philadelphia 10 The NFL continued to kick destroy a great weekend as the Eagles and Falcons could only muster up 24 points. Both defenses really did look good and I was really on the wrong side. There are times when you have good picks that just don't pan out; this was not one of them.
