Since the readers of Reno have been enjoying the information for free we thought that we would send this out to Thehooks Book customers. We are 9-5 with this pick.

Cleveland/Cincinnati Over 42

Since their bye the Bengals have put up some huge offensive numbers and have been very kind on the defensive side. The average score the past 3 weeks has been 39-35 in favor of the Bengals. I know that the Colts put up 45 but the Steelers put up 31 and the anemic Ravens even scored 29 against them.

I like the way Carson Palmer is running the no huddle offense and forcing the tempo on the opposing defense. Palmer should have a big day no matter what the weather or the Browns throw at him. Rudi Johnson should also have a big day.

Cleveland has let up an average of 29 point the past two road games against the punchless Vikings and the Steelers minus Big Ben. They have scored an average of 17 points in those two games.

Charlie Frye is the man now and perhaps for the future. They do not want to just watch him hand the ball off. Cleveland wants to know if they have their QB for the future so expect him to be given the green light to be a playmaker. This could be good and at times could be bad for Brown fans but good for bettors on the over.

The Bengals truly remind me of the Colts a couple of years ago. They should score enough points on their own to get the over, and it does not matter if the weather is bad or not. Last year in Cincinnati these teams combined for 106 points in the second highest scoring game in history. I do not expect that many points, but I do expect more than the posted total.

Dr. D's Thoughts And Ponders

For your reading pleasure, Dr. D and Thehooks book are proud to bring you Thoughts and Ponders.

Wow, did USC and Texas prove they are the two best teams in college football? Texas won the Big 12 Championship 70-3 over Colorado. Hey Buffs, maybe show up next time? USC won 66-19 over UCLA. Nothing bad to say about the Bruins, USC is just that good.

Did Reggie Bush secure the Heisman Trophy with his last two performances?

Watch out, the Vikings have won 5 in a row and are now 7-5. Randy Who? Dante Who? What sex scandal?

Louisiana Tech got screwed out of a bowl game. Colorado should give up their bowl game with Clemson and give their spot to Louisiana Tech. Any team that gets beat 70-3 in a championship game doesn’t deserve to be in a bowl game.

How about the Miami Dolphins comeback on Sunday? Down 23-3, starting QB goes down with a concussion and they come back and win 24-23. Nice work Fins!

42-0! Need I say more?

The Bengals proved they are for real last week with a 38-31 victory over the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

Chad Johnson said the Bengals are going to the Super Bowl this year. Easy Chad! Your team is good but there is this one team out there that is pretty good as well. I can’t remember their name but they have a good quarterback, good running back, solid wide receivers, plus they have a defense this year. Goodness, if I could only remember their name….oh wait I got it, it’s the undefeated COLTS!

AFC division leaders are: the Colts, Bengals, Broncos, and Patriots (thank god for the weak AFC EAST). So that means there are two wild card spots left and 4 teams fighting for those spots: The Steelers, Jags, Chargers and Chiefs. These last few weeks of football are going to be enjoyable.

Is there a better team in the NFC than the Seahawks right now?

When was the last time you saw a Packer team 2-10? But what I like about the Packers is they haven’t given up yet. They play tough for 60 minutes.

If the Packers somehow wind up with the first pick in the NFL draft and take Reggie Bush, do you think Favre would stick around for another year?

In all honesty, I really do hope the Niners get the first pick in the draft. They need to take Reggie Bush and add a little excitement to their team. Give Alex Smith another year or two and this team will be exciting. They may not be the best team in football but they will be fun to watch.

If you look at the worst teams in the NFL right now, most of them are set at the quarterback position either with a solid player in place or a backup getting ready for the future. With that in mind, where does Matt Leinhart go in the draft?

How bad are the Eagles right now? The Vikings and the Eagles switched rolls during mid season. The Vikings spread their turmoil onto someone else and that someone else was the Eagles.

There are some great college bowl match-ups this year. The holiday season will be filled with really good football.

Game of the week: Bears vs. Steelers. Bears have won 8 in a row and the Steelers have lost 3 in a row. Steelers have to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Bears are out to prove they are this good.

Questions of the week: This week’s Thoughts and Ponders have been filled with many questions but here are two more to really think about:

1) Besides the USC vs. Texas match-up, which bowl game has the best match-up?

2) If you had to associate Terrell Owens with a disease/virus, which would he be?

I hope Thoughts and Ponders brought you reading enjoyment as well as challenged your football minds with questions to think about. Enjoy your weekend of NFL football. This is the Doctor, signing out.
