December 24, 2005 Issue #60 Weekly Publication Table of Contents: Merry Christmas Bears Dr. D’s Thoughts And Ponders
Thehooks wishes you all a Merry Christmas. We know it is college football time on the clock but don't forget the ones closest to you during the holidays. Enjoy the games but more importantly take time to tell your love ones that you do in fact love them. Since the readers of Reno have been enjoying the information for free we thought that we would send this out to Thehooks Book customers. We are 12-5 with this pick. We had the over in the BYU/CAL game. Sorry you missed that one but here is another pick from our selections. Chicago -6.5 @ Green Bay The Packers looked horrible last week and I do not see them looking any better this week. The Bears have stopped every offense except the powerful running game of the Steelers. Last time I checked Green Bay does not have the powerful running game and I hate to say this, but Favre does not look good. Now Samkon Gado is done for the season. This could get ugly if - Bears quarterback Rex Grossman really is that good. Wow, the man was the man and everyone, I mean everyone, even the power houses in the AFC, should be nervous because if this team can score 24, then they will not lose to anyone, period. If I was Rodgers I hope that Favre wants to play this week because I would not want to line up against this defense. Welcome to Thoughts and Ponders Christmas Edition. I’m your host Dr. D. and I will be leading you through this sleigh ride of football fun. Is it me or have the first 2 bowl games been anything but spectacular. Southern Miss made Arkansas St actually look like they belonged in a bowl game (which in fact, they didn’t). And how about UTEP? Thanks for showing up in the second half. What did you put up, 31 total yards? Nice, that was fun to watch. Louisiana Tech should be even more furious that they didn’t make a bowl after the display of crap that has been played so far. Can you tell that I’m not too happy with the bowl season so far? Let me move on before I really explode. The Chargers! Are you kidding me? Go into Indy and just manhandle the Colts and their offense. A week after they get beat by the Dolphins and everyone counted them out, they beat Indy and everyone believes in them again…funny how that works. If the Chargers make the playoffs, will people want to play them? I know the Colts want another shot at them. Until somebody beats them in the playoffs, the Pats are my pick to win the Super Bowl. Tiki Barber for MVP? Could happen especially after last week’s performance. Drew Brees was left off the Pro Bowl list. He shouldn’t be too upset because the QB’s in front of him have had some special years. Now if he was in the NFC, he would probably be starting the Pro Bowl. Shawn Alexander for MVP? The favorite at this point. Last week the Texans beat the Cardinals. Did they do that on purpose? Did they want you to believe they are not actually trying to throw games so they can get the number one pick? Things that make you go hmmm. Hottest teams in football right now are the Seahawks in the NFC and the Patriots in the AFC. Or how about the Dolphins? Ask the Chargers who the hottest team in football is and most likely they will say the Fins. The Ravens put up 48 points on Monday Night. A team that hasn’t put up 48 points all year goes for almost 50 points! Are the Packers that bad or do teams have to watch out for the high flying Ravens next year? Carson Palmer for MVP? Team wouldn’t be the same without him. Does anyone care about these meaningless games the next few weeks? How about the Eagles @ Cardinals? The Battle of the Birds…YIPEE! How bad are the Bills? How bad are the Lions? You know it’s time to step down when the entire city of Detroit is calling for your head at every major sporting event in town! Not to mention the fans that do come to watch your team are wearing the opposing team’s colors. Step down Millen. Game of the Week: Chargers @ Chiefs. The winner keeps their playoff hopes alive. Question of the Week: Should Favre call it quits at the end of the year? Wishing you all the happiest of holidays from the Doctor and Thehooksbook. Just The Facts: College Bowl Radio Special is this week. Reno listeners can tune in at 8 am on The BUZZ - 1270 am. No Free Picks this week. We do like and have this pick as one of our college bowl picks. Take Nevada -2 tonite in the Hawaii Bowl. Click to view our home page. |
