Nevada/Fresno State OVER 56

Thehooks will play the local game to start off the season. The play we are promoting is the over 56 points in the game this Friday. The last two times Nevada has gone to Fresno the total points have been right around 70. I expect the game to have plenty of big plays from both teams.

Nevada is stacked on offense and on the air last Saturday we botched a few of the names and we apologize because the Wolfpack have a trio compared to the Dallas Cowboys in Rowe, Hubbard, and Spencer. There is no team in the WAC conference that will be able to stop this team from hanging at least 30 points every game. Yes we know that Fresno will have a decent defense but like we said, no one in the WAC can stop this offense.

Fresno starts a new QB. Pinegar had been there since 1992, and some will say that the offense will slip. Well you’re wrong, and if you do not believe me watch the offensive line of the Bulldogs on Friday. They are without a doubt the best line in the WAC. The Bulldogs will be able to run the ball and put the pigskin in the endzone. The Wolfpack also has to be careful of the special teams play of the Bulldogs. Fresno could possibly score more than once this Friday.

Fresno will have revenge on their minds and some might say Nevada is at a disadvantage because the Bulldogs have been gearing up for them all summer. Think again, Nevada is lucky because once the QB play comes around for Fresno this year, they will then truly be scary to play.

Thoughts and Ponders:

Welcome back to Thoughts and Ponders.

After a long hiatus, Dr. D and the Thehooks book are backing bringing you the good, the bad, and the ugly of football.

Before we get into it, take a deep breath and realize that college football starts on August 31st and the NFL starts on September 7th. Can you feel the excitement? Oh by the way, remember to exhale!

I have to get this off my chest. It’s been bothering me for a few years now. In fact, I remember making a similar statement last year around this time. What makes any rookie no matter if you are Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, or the last guy picked in the draft have any right to demand a certain amount of money in their contract? Have you played a down in the NFL yet? NO! Yeah we all know you both have Heismans and you were both National Champs 2 straight years but to me, that’s in the past. You earn your right to gripe about money once you prove it on the field that you deserve it.

Here’s an idea for every business man and woman out there. Go into your job tomorrow, walk up to your boss and demand more money and tell him or her you won’t do an ounce of work until you get what you want. What do you think is going to happen? Do you think he or she is going to go to their cohorts and work out something? I’m thinking you will be walking out of your job with 3 shoes: 2 on your feet and one up your ....you get the picture.

Ok, so Reggie Bush wants Number One draft pick money. So does Vince Young. I somewhat understand the reasoning behind the number 2 and 3 picks that could have gone as the first pick. But what was up with the 10th pick in the draft, Mr. Leinart requesting Number One money? Hey Mr. Hollywood, you aren’t in L.A. anymore! You are not the star anymore. Prove it in the NFL and then we will talk money.

Ok, enough negativity to start the season. Let’s get to the good stuff!

I wish all the best to Favre in his last season. Go out on a high note. By the way, nobody was listening when you said you team is better than last year, but we are young and might not even win a game. We will just let that one slide.

How sharp did Carson Palmer look on Monday night against the Packers? How many Bengal’s fans held their breath when he took his first hit or when he scrambled. Let’s not try and think what was going through the coaching staff’s minds.

Big Ben...what were you thinking riding a crotch rocket without a helmet. Hey buddy, it’s in the past and I’m glad you are doing well, have a great season.

Culpepper and Chris Chambers....you will here that TD connection a lot this year.

You know, I could write a whole thesis paper on T.O. but he’s not worth it. Will McNair help the Ravens get back to the playoffs? All I know is he will help Jamal Lewis find his game again.

You know there is a trend that says the loser of the Super Bowl struggles the next year and many times doesn’t even make the playoffs but I find it hard to believe the Seahawks not in the playoffs this year.

Colts Wide Receivers Vs. Cardinals Wide Receivers...... and the winner is? You decide.

The Madden Curse: Will Alexander fall to an injury?

Notre Dame as National Champs this year? All hype or can it really happen?

Don’t forget about Ohio St as a possible national champ.

Game of the Week: Temple Vs. Buffalo. The winner may get their only win of the season for both teams. An instant classic?

They are expecting USC and Texas still to be top 10 teams. With all they lost do you really think they can stay in the elite? Good recruiting and some solid returnees but when you lose names like Bush, Young, White, and Leinart, it’s hard to believe these teams will be on top again.

I think the top team in the PAC- 10 may be Cal. Keep your eye on Oregon as well. I’m not saying Arizona will compete for the title but they will surprise a few teams this year.

Carolina to win the Super Bowl? I like the sound of that.

Well folks, I’ve ranted and raved long enough. Don’t want to scare everyone away right off the bat. Until next week, enjoy the opening weekend. This is the Doctor and the Thehooks book signing out!
