The Reno Gazette Journal Pick

Bengals/Colts OVER 54

The last time these two teams met the scoreboard almost broke as they tallied 82 points. The total started at 52 and is now at 54. If you like this pick jump on it now because it will only continue to go up because of the offenses and the lack of the Colts defense.

The Bengals defense has played extremely well the past month but they have not had to deal with Manning and Company. The Colts defense is still being scraped off the turf from the 375 yard rushing attack that hit them last week. Are they really this bad? I don't think they are that bad but they are not a top 15 defense to say the least. They will play better but only because it cannot get any worse, at least for the run defense.

Manning will have to start winning games like two years ago if the Colts want to stop the losing streak. Expect an aggressive approach on the offensive side for Indy and perhaps a quicker tempo to the offense to try to get it going.

Rudi might not be as good as the Jags combo but the passing game of the Bengals is light years ahead of Jacksonville. After a slow start the Bengals are looking like the team everyone was jumping on at the beginning of the season. Palmer and that great WR group will have a good time Monday Night against the poor Colt defense.

Expect a lot of points and while the number is high at 54, I don't think this one stays under 60.

Thoughts and Ponders:

The Doctor and Thehooks book welcome you back to yet another edition of Thoughts and Ponders. Where else would you want to go to find random thoughts about football?

Congrats to Troy Smith. It was a given wasn’t it?

Second most lopsided Heisman ever? WOW!

Was it a surprise that McFadden finished second? Did it really matter who finished second, third, etc...?

The only thing that Troy Smith could do this year was to get the Heisman Trophy on a plane. How funny is that? “Can’t take that trophy on a plane son.” Don’t you just question sometimes what’s going on at the airport?

Maybe it was a good thing that he didn’t get the trophy on the plane. Last time an Ohio St player won the Heisman, it was Eddie George and his Heisman Trophy was broken at the airport. HMM...the airport and the Heisman, not a good combo.

FYI to all you future Heisman winners: No matter if you win it next year, five years from now or whenever, drive to New York to get your Heisman. That way you can stay away from the airport and either risk not getting your trophy on the plane or if you do, it might come out with a lost hand or head or something.

Maybe that last statement should be just for Ohio St players who win. Other than those two, everybody seems to get the trophy home just fine.

Bowl games start Dec. 19th! That’s less than a week away. Can you smell the excitement?

I don’t care if they have 32 bowl games and there are teams that shouldn’t be in a bowl, this is still the best part of the year and I will try and watch every bowl game possible! Wow, my girlfriend might not want to read this! I could be single by the time Jan 9th rolls around if I watch every game. Wow, that’s a tough call... I might have to think about this one....I’ll get back to you next week with my answer, girlfriend or bowl games? HMMM....just kidding sweetie, you know I’ll pick the bowl games! Just kidding E.T.!

Tennessee Titans and Mr. Vince Young taking the NFL by storm. 4 wins in a row! Mr. Young has brought football excitement back to the Titan’s fans.

How fun is it to watch Reggie Bush? That cut back move on Sunday Night against Dallas looked so easy. Those defenders had no chance.

Drew Brees is on fire.

Chargers vs. Saints for the Super Bowl? Rivers vs. Brees. L.T. vs. Bush. People would tune in for that game!

Congrats L.T. for your TD record. People always complained that the reason the records are broken was because nowadays, teams play 16 games instead of 14. Well guess what folks, L.T. only needed 13!

What do you think 33 TD’s will be his final total for the year?

What is happening to the Colts?

Carolina was a favorite to win the Super Bowl this year. Now they may not even make the playoffs.

Ravens vs. Bears Super Bowl? Doesn’t sound too exciting does it? But it could happen.

New England getting shut out by Miami? Is Miami’s defense that good or are the Patriots just not cutting it anymore?

Remember when nobody could score a touchdown on the Broncos.

Cutler vs. Leinart this week. I think Vince Young is the best out of the 3 so far. This would be for second.

This has nothing to do with football but I’m writing it anyway! Congrats to my father and his new bride Janet. Wishing you many years of happiness. Love ya both!

Well folks, only about a week and a half to X-mas. Everyone be safe out there and enjoy the upcoming bowl games. Until next week, same website, same writer! This is the Doctor signing out!
