Stat of the Week:

Iowa is at home this week. They are 3-0 ATS at home this year and an incredilbe 26-4-1 ATS at home under Coach Ferentz.

Since the readers of Reno have been enjoying the information for free we thought that we would send this out to Thehooks Book customers.

Western Michigan @ Bowling Green –24.5 Western Michigan has lost its senior quarterback for the year. They turned to their FR quarterback in their dramatic loss to Ball State two weeks ago, 5 overtimes in the game. They had used Robbie Hass at first since the injury but now have gone with the freshmen Miller. This will be the first road game for the freshmen quarterback. This will be a tough spot for the youngster because he will have to match the offensive firepower of Jacobs and Company. To make matters worse, Bowling Green has only allowed 1 touchdown in each of the last 3 games.

Western Michigan is playing with 8 true redshirt freshmen on the defensive side. This unit has its work cut out trying to contain the explosive offense of the Falcons.

Bowling Green is 2-0 ATS this year at home while outscoring the teams 108 - 21. They are a more confident team at home and have righted the ship since their poor performance at Boise State. The Falcons have committed to playing an up tempo game since their loss at Boise. We won with Bowling Green when we had them as our Lock of the Week against Temple (70-7) and we will go with them this week as one of our top plays.

Bowling Green has struggled on the road this year and that is the reason the line is under 30 this week. They will score at will this week and force the freshmen QB into several turnovers, giving the explosive offense a short field to work with. Look out; it could be 49-0 at half just like last year.

Dr. D's Thoughts And Ponders

This is Dr. D. signing in from Thehooks book bringing you the ups and the downs of the past week in football.

Notre Dame should be disappointed they lost to USC last weekend but they have no reason to hang their heads. They played an unbelievable game and no doubt deserved to win the game. But at the same time they proved to the entire world that they should be considered one of the best teams in college football right now no matter what their ranking is. An added bonus to this game for Notre Dame is they proved that USC is very beatable this year.

Once again USC was down at the half and once again came back to win in the second half barely. Maybe now they will start playing the whole game now instead of just the second half.

Did Matt Leinart prove he deserves his 2nd Heisman Trophy last weekend? Takes a lot of balls to do what he did in the last 7 seconds! Many quarterbacks would have just spiked the ball and taken their chances in overtime.

Props have to go out to Pete Carroll as well. Not a lot of coaches would have let their quarterback try the sneak with 7 seconds left knowing if they get stopped, they lose.

What’s going on with the Vikings? Their whole organization is crumbling. Not only is their team playing horrible on the field, now they have a sex scandal happening off the field. This team is in a tailspin and it’s about ready to crash and burn if nothing is done.

I did get a little bit of a laugh when the allegations first came out about the Viking’s sex cruise. The news interviewed one lady who has a home right on the lake and she said there was a line of about 6-8 people on her front lawn peeing. She called it a “peeing line dance” or something. You don’t hear that saying everyday!

We all now know how important Big Ben is to the Steelers after last week’s loss to Jacksonville.

How about Indy’s performance on Monday night? That looked like the Indy of old in the second half.

Congrats to Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning on their record breaking performance. They are now the greatest quarterback-receiver touchdown combos ever!

It was fun watching those two coming off the field after their touchdown. Peyton giving the ball to Marvin and Marvin saying, “no you take it.” Both of those guys are classy. Even though Marvin has the other 85 touchdowns, he believed Peyton should have the 86th. So what are they going to do? Split the ball in half so each can have part of the record-breaking football. Total class!

Wouldn’t it be a great game if Temple played Ball St. this year?

Shawn Alexander smells the end zone better than anybody in the league now. He has a chance to break Priest Holmes’ rushing touchdown record.

Who would have thought the Tampa Bay Bucs would be considered one of the best teams in the NFC at this junction of the season?

Remember when Purdue was ranked in the top 10? Now they are on the verge of losing their 5th straight. Talk about your disappointments!

The dreaded BCS rankings came out this week and for the most part, I believe they have the two best teams playing for the National Championship, Texas and USC. But don’t get too excited about that match-up because there are plenty of weeks left to play and plenty of controversy on the way.

Game of the Week: Texas Tech at Texas. This should be a shootout from start to finish. The Red Raiders are a 17-point underdog. If Texas comes out and destroys Texas Tech like they did Oklahoma, then by all means they deserve to play for the National Championship.

This is Dr. D. signing out from Thehooks book reminding you that watching football on the weekend isn’t a privilege; it’s a way of life.

Just The Facts:

VA Tech was our Lock of the Week. Yes, we won and we should not brag because we had lost 2 in a row.
