Monday Night Football Winner

Since the readers of Reno have been enjoying the information for free we thought that we would send this out to Thehooks Book customers. We are 6-3 with this pick.

NFL 4 Hook
Indianapolis -3 @ New England

The Colts come into this game hoping to redeem themselves and finally beat the Patriots. New England is only 4-3 but are in first place in their division. The Colts are off to a 7-0 mark and have had two weeks to get ready for New England. They need this win because if they lose this game it will be a severe blow to their mental wellness. I wrote last year that I thought the Colts choked by playing not to lose instead of to win. This year they win no matter what because they have the better defensive team.

If the Colts and Patriots meet in the playoffs the winner of this upcoming Monday Night Clash will likely win the playoff game. That is how important this game is to both teams. The playoff game will likely be played in Indianapolis but if New England wins this week then my money would be on them to end the Colts season in January if they met again. The Colts have to get this monkey off their back and I think this is the perfect time. They have had two weeks to get ready for a suspect team that leads their division only by default. New England has a curse on the Colts and if the Colts want to reach the Super Bowl they need to excise their demons this week.

Manning and Company have a defense this year that will wreak havoc on Brady and be the difference this year. If the Colts play to win they will win by two touchdowns. If they play not to lose then they will struggle but still have a chance to win by a field goal in the fourth quarter. New England struggled against a good offensive team at home (San Diego) and if the Colts watched the film they should have the answers to finally overcome themselves and beat New England.

Dr. D's Thoughts And Ponders

This is Dr. D signing in from Thehooks book once again bringing you the highs and especially the lows of the past week in football.

First and foremost, I must apologize to the Niners. Last week in my Thoughts and Ponders, I butchered them in almost every thought. I even said my nephew’s peewee football team could score points on the Niners. Then what happens? They come out and beat one of the top teams in the NFC. They beat the Bucs with an ex-rodeo cowboy running their offense. I apologize greatly for all my rude comments. Please forgive me 49ers!

How about that ex-rodeo cowboy playing quarterback for the Niners? The man even plays on special teams! I’d take that guy on my team any day.

I’ve come to the conclusion that every time I butcher somebody in my thoughts, the following week they come back and bite me in the butt. I remember back during preseason and McNabb said “He and Owens don’t have to be buddies off the field to be good on the field.” I laughed, told McNabb to wake up from dreamland cause it wasn’t going to work. What happens? McNabb and Owens connect for 150 yards and 5 catches and a TD in preseason. Makes you think…

Should I stop butchering people or teams is a question people have been asking me? Even my father told me last week I was a little rough on the Niners and they won. As much as I love my father and everyone’s suggestions I will not stop my butchering. It’s what makes me tick I guess. All I’m saying is see if the trend follows; if I butcher somebody or some team one week, see how they do the following week.

Enough sitting on the couch analyzing my thoughts, let’s get back to football.

The Raiders are playing good ball right now. The running game is coming around and the passing game is looking sharp. Collins is throwing the ball to all his wide receivers and they are making plays. Watch out for this team!

Is it me or are the Pats not as good as they have been the last few years? I know they have a lot of injuries but they always seemed to overcome those. This year, they seem to be struggling.

This week when the Colts take on the Pats it’s a must win for the Colts. You may be thinking to yourself, why is it a must win? Let me tell you why: Peyton Manning hasn’t been able to beat Brady and the Pats. He needs to get that monkey off his back and get the victory. If they do not win this week, you can almost guarantee a loss in the playoffs to the Pats as well. It’s that whole mind over matter thing. Plain and simple: If the Colts win this week, they have the edge going to the super bowl. Pats win and the Colts will struggle to beat them in the playoffs.

There are some powerhouse college football teams that are a little down this year. Ones that come to mind are Oklahoma, Tennessee and Michigan. These are the powerhouse teams that you usually see in the top 10 but this year not a single one is in the top 15.

Since we are talking about surprises, how about the college teams people assumed would struggle or wouldn’t be this strong. How about Northwestern? This team has surprised a few teams, ask Wisconsin and Michigan St. How about UCLA? People knew they were good but not this good. What about Alabama? Did anyone expect them to still be undefeated this far into the season?

I do feel sorry to Brett Favre. This guy really has nobody to throw to and has nobody who can run the ball. Favre may throw 3 to 5 INT’s every game. But he will keep each game as close as possible….aww, the magic of Brett Favre.

Culpepper is gone for the rest of the year. It looked like it couldn’t get any worse for the Vikings or the organization, well, it just did.

Stat of the week: LT of the Chargers has 3 passing TD’s. The entire Jets’ team has 3 TD passes. Just in case you didn’t know, LT is a running back.

Game of the Week: Some may say Indy vs. Pats but I’m looking at this college game. Miami vs. Virginia Tech. To me, this is the game to watch this weekend. There is no better game on Saturday or Sunday. Two of the nation’s best teams going head to head in prime time Saturday evening. An instant classic!

Well, it’s been a rough week taking criticism for some of my comments and I thank everyone who complained. It just makes Thoughts and Ponders even better. This is Dr. D signing out. Till next week, enjoy the games this Saturday and Sunday and you can’t forget about the Pats/Indy on Monday. Enjoy your weekend everybody.
