Navy

Since the readers of Reno have been enjoying the information for free we thought that we would send this out to Thehooks Book customers. We are 8-5 with this pick.

Army @ Navy –6

Navy has outscored Army 134-31 the past three years and is 11-3 ATS the last 14 games against Army. The favorite has covered the spread 6 of the last 8 years. Expect the trend to continue this weekend, as Navy will win by more than a touchdown. And capture the Commander-in-Chief's trophy.

Navy is the better team and has played the tougher schedule. The Midshipmen opened with two close tough losses to Stanford and Maryland and then won 4 straight before losing on the road to Bowl bound Rutgers. Since then they have beaten the teams they were suppose to beat and lost to Notre Dame. Army is one of those teams they should beat.

Army has won the last 4 games after dropping the first 6 games. Give them credit for the Akron and Air Force wins but the last two wins have come against Massachusetts and Arkansas State.

Navy has the better rushing attack and is more physical than Army on defense. Navy slept walk through the first half against Temple and then throttled them in the second half. There will be no sleep walking this weekend.

Navy is set to go Bowling in San Diego but first will take care of Navy. HUGE rivalry game and having Coach Ross on the sidelines is the only reason this line is not over 10 points. Lay the 6 points on the better and more physical team, Navy.

Dr. D's Thoughts And Ponders

Welcome to Thoughts and Ponders. My name is Dr. D and here is the best and the worst from the past week in football.

The Lions are in a tailspin and are heading for a huge crash. After their thrashing at the hands of the Falcons on Thanksgiving Day, the rumors started to fly about Mariucci’s job. They said they were going to fire him on Friday but waited till Monday. Hey, at least they let him enjoy his Thanksgiving with his family.

What about Dre’ Bly calling out Joey Harrington? What he did was just as bad if not worse than what Owens did to McNabb. Like Bly is making the Lions better.

You can’t blame Harrington for the Lions being this bad. Yeah I know he isn’t what everyone expected him to be but come on, what he is going through is ridiculous. Every time he steps on the field, he knows if he makes one mistake, one itsy bitsy mistake, he could find himself on the bench the next series. Think of it this way: Next time you go to work, imagine somebody is waiting at your door and if you make one mistake or say something wrong or mispronounce something, he or she will replace you right then and there. Makes your job a tad bit harder don’t you thing?

I wonder if the Niners put a question up in the San Francisco Chronicle every week: Who starts at QB for us this week? Dorsey, Smith or the rodeo cowboy? The readers make the decision. Just pick somebody will you!

In fact, I wonder if the Lions do something along those lines in the Detroit Times: How many mistakes can Harrington make before we sit him? One mistake, two mistakes or just sit him before the game begins.

Will the Colts go 16-0? A lot of people believed Jacksonville would be their only loss. Now with Leftwich out, is their mind going to change?

If the Colts weren’t undefeated, more people would be talking about Denver.

Thank goodness for the Pats they play in the AFC East division or they wouldn’t be making the playoffs this year.

Are the Bengals for real? We will find out this weekend when they take on Pittsburgh at Hines Field.

DA BEARS!!!

Fresno St! Wow, talk about your all time letdown after that great USC game. They come into Reno knowing they win, they win the WAC championship outright but instead they leave Nevada with a share of the title with Boise St. and UNR. Good job Bulldogs!

Thought to remember when you are watching the Big 12 Championship this weekend: This game has been known for some major upsets in recent years. So don’t count out the 28-point underdog Buffalos till the very end.

Question of the Week: What has happened to the once mighty Florida St. Seminoles? Their slide will continue this week when they face Va. Tech.

This is Dr. D signing out from Thehooks book. Join us next week for yet another fun adventure of Thoughts and Ponders. Enjoy your weekend!
