The Reno Gazette Journal Pick

Boise State @ Nevada +3

Boise is still in the hunt for the BCS money this weekend in Reno. Boise has beaten Nevada by an average of 40 points the past 5 years. You would think laying 3 points is the way to go this weekend but upon further review we have a different view.

Nevada has what it takes to beat Boise State. The Wolfpack has a top ranked defense that causes a lot of turnovers plus has gotten a boost from their return teams the past month. Nevada can run the ball and control the clock with their senior quarterback Jeff Rowe. They are going to a bowl game and really don't need to beat Boise State. The Pack has no chance to win the WAC, they have no pressure at all this Saturday.

What Nevada will have is a packed Mackay stadium and a team that is playing with confidence. Boise, well yes they are confident but the pressure is on them and we think it is time that Nevada gets some overdue revenge against the Broncos. Nevada upset Fresno State last year and this year they will do the same to the Broncos.

Thoughts and Ponders:

This is the Doctor signing in for a Thanksgiving edition of Thoughts and Ponders. So while you sit there watching football and eating turkey, let the Doctor ramble and rant for a moment or two.

Thank you Bo. Thanks for many, many years of greatness on and off the field. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

How good was that Ohio St/Michigan game? How amazing of a game was that? 42-39! Did it live up to the hype? I think so, I think so.

Nothing against Michigan but if Ohio St doesn’t fumble the ball twice, they blow out Michigan by at least two touchdowns. Michigan didn’t cause the fumbles, they were both bad snaps. But hey, that’s part of the game right?

Does Michigan still belong as the number 2 in the BCS standings?

Now if Notre Dame beats USC, Michigan belongs to be ranked above Notre Dame but what if USC wins? Do they deserve to be ahead of Michigan?

Everyone is talking about USC, Michigan and Notre Dame as the possible opponent for Ohio St in the national championship but nobody is talking about Florida or Arkansas.

Before we talk about Arkansas, they need to get by LSU this week which is not an easy task.

Rutgers was the Cinderella story for about a week.

Well, no undefeated team in the NFL again thanks to the Cowboys. For yet another year, the 72' Dolphins can breathe a sigh of relief.

The 49ers have a legit chance of winning their division. The NFC West is up for grabs. Stop laughing, I’m not kidding.

How much fun would it be to watch a Hawaii/Texas Tech bowl game? Or Hawaii/Cal? Or how about any team that can score points against Hawaii? The over/under in that bowl game will be in the high 70's or low 80's.

Remember the six teams we’ve talked about the last two weeks. Well, they had an off week last week going 2-3-1 ATS. Don’t give up on them!

Dolphins in the playoffs? They could win out. Yeah they have New England but they can beat them and they have Indy but that’s the last week. Indy could be resting everybody. Dolphins could finish the year 10-6 winning the last 9. If that happens, teams might not want to play this team.

Chargers may be the best team in the NFL. Sorry Colts, Bears, and everybody else, the Chargers are for real.

How do you throw the ball for 510 yards and only score 16 points? Doesn’t seem possible but it is, ask Drew Brees.

Cowboys are for real now. Thanks to Tony Romo. Yeah, you read that right, thanks to Tony Romo.

NFL rookie of the year is on the Saints but it’s not Reggie Bush...it’s Marques Colston.

Favre streak will continue.

Notre Dame vs USC. LSU vs Arkansas. This week has some great college games as well this week.

Well folks, I want everyone to enjoy Thanksgiving and have fun with friends and family. Take care of yourselves and enjoy the football and the food and the family. This is the Doctor signing out!
