USC -19 @ Arizona

USC has looked really good against two teams that most likely will go to a bowl game. Arizona has beaten a decent BYU team, got crushed by LSU and then struggled against S.F. Austin. Yes I said S.F. Austin.

USC is just too much for Arizona to handle. The Trojans truly just reloaded and are a top 5 team. The favorite is 8-3 ATS is this series and after USC wins by 4 TD's the favorite will be 9-3.

USC will get stronger and stronger as the season goes along. Arkansas and Nebraska had the best chances to knock them off but did not even come close. They will not look ahead because they still lack the experience in the backfield to just put it on cruise control. Expect USC to move the ball at will and the defense to continue to flex its muscles.

That was not a mistake, the defense lives in Trojan land and because of the D this team just might be a better cover team than the glamorous team from last year.

Dr. D and Thehooks Book welcomes you to yet another addition to Thoughts and Ponders.

Let me ask you this, how desperate do you have to be to stab the starting punter in the leg? You are a backup punter and you stab the starter in the leg so you can get a chance to kick? Are you kidding me? That may be the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. Did he not think he was going to get caught? And as the old saying goes, the Trojan Boner play of the week goes to...

Michigan put a whoopin’ on Notre Dame last week. There goes the national title chance for the Irish. How do they respond? Do they shrivel up and die or do they dominate the rest of the season?

West Virginia...keep your eye on them, if you can. This may be the quickest team in the nation. When your quarterback runs a 4.4 and may not be the fastest on the team, you may have cheetahs on your team!

Remember the Super Bowl a few years back when the Raiders and the Bucs played, do you think anybody would show up to watch these two teams to play now. The Raiders are averaging 3 points a game and the Bucs are averaging 1.5! Take the UNDER!

Everyone liked the Panther’s shot a Super Bowl this year but starting the year 0-2, are people falling off the bandwagon?

The Cowboys looked good in their home opener against the Redskins. Owens breaks his finger in the first quarter but doesn’t tell anybody till the 4th. They may not even lose him for a game considering they have a bye this week. You may see him back on the field in two weeks. Emmitt Smith had a similar injury back in the day and was out for 12 days.

The Miami Hurricanes, is their time as a powerhouse done?

Eli Manning and the Giants with a giant of a comeback against the Eagles last week. Eli looked like his brother for once...O.K. let me stop right there. For all you readers that have been with me since day one know that I do not like Eli Manning ever since his draft day fiasco. So take this moment and realize that this might be the only time I ever give him some props.

How exciting was the Monday Night Football game? Do you think they rushed Big Ben back too early? Or are the Jags for real?

After the smattering of great college football games last weekend, this weekend seems a little dull doesn’t it? Don’t’ get me wrong, there are some good games but when you have 7 games involving top 25 teams playing each other, it just doesn’t have the same flare.

Cowboys are the new team to beat in the NFC.

The Chargers are the team to beat in the AFC but the Ravens are right on their heels. Both these teams have the best defenses in the game but the Chargers might be a little better in the offensive category. But come playoff time, do you take the unproven QB in Rivers or a veteran like McNair? Look at me, talking playoffs after two weeks. I think the backup punter story has my brain in loop. I’m still laughing about it.

How great was the Oregon and Oklahoma game last week? Oklahoma got screwed though.

It’s amazing to believe that when you lose two Heisman trophy winners your team is still in the top three in the nation. How good is USC? Nobody is talking about them but they may have one of the better defenses in the nation.

Game of the week: Notre Dame vs. Michigan St. Can the Irish bounce back or will the Spartans continue the fall of the mighty Irish?

This is the Doctor signing out for Thehooks book. Enjoy your weekend everyone!!!!
