There probably isn’t a dry eye in the building with all the tears of joy to see me back. Well, enough thinking I would have that effect on you, let’s get to the good stuff: Riddle me this Batman; do you think Michael Vick’s apology was sincere? With all the “you knows” and the “ums” I really don’t know what to think. The first part of his apology confused the snot out of me. “First and foremost I’m a football player, not a public speaker?” That was pretty obvious to all of us Michael. But the line after that saying something about not knowing what to say but wanting to say it… Felt like I was listening to Ben Stiller’s character on Dodgeball. “Nobody makes me bleed my own blood.” Seriously, what is happening to the NFL? Michael Vick, Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson, half of the Cincinnati Bengals are all in trouble with the law in the last year. Not a good thing at all for the NFL. Kind of makes the whole steroid/BALCO/Barry Bonds thing in baseball seem somewhat childish. Speaking of steriods, there is news out there that says Tim Couch has been linked to doping. Yeah, you heard right, Tim Couch. Maybe the whole thing that says steriods makes you a better athlete is false. The only thing Timmy will be tossing now will be pizzas and hopefully for his sake they don't do random drug testing. Enough Michael Vick and the rest of the troublesome issues in the NFL, it’s giving me a headache. You know, let’s um, you know, move on to you know, um, you know happy thoughts. College football is here baby and with the NFL starting next week, you can just hear couch cushions deflating all over the nation. I don’t know if they actually deflate when you sit down but that’s the only word that came to my head and I’m sticking to it! How about this instead: You can hear the crunching of chips, the popping of soda and other fine beverages being opened as well as the forming of butt-prints on all couches and recliners! Butt-prints, there’s a word you don’t hear everyday. The Dolphins should have drafted Brady Quinn at number nine. Nothing against Ted Ginn Jr, but that is not what the Dolphins needed. I’m sorry; Trent Green is not the answer. This is going way out on a limb but Brady Quinn could have been the next Dan Marino for the Dolphins. Maybe not numbers wise, but the face of the franchise for many years. JaMarcus Russell...are you kidding me!!!! Sign already. Brady to Moss for a touchdown! How many times are we going to hear that hookup this year? 10 maybe? That is of course if Moss gets on the field. This may be the first year since 1910 that Terrell Owens isn't the main thing people are talking about at the beginning of the season. I'm sure he hasn't been a saint but compared to everything else, he looks like an angel. Can L.T. top last year's performance? Might be hard to do but they said he will be more involved in the offense than last year. 5 to 10 more touches. Bad news for the other teams but good news for the Chargers. Vinny Testrverde is in his twenty-first year. Wow, that's amazing. Some of you may be thinking there are a lot of players out there in their forties and have been playing for twenty plus years but those are kickers and punters. They can't even get touched without a soap opera acting job getting a fifteen-yard penalty. Vinny got hammered by 300 pound guys, game in and game out for fifteen plus years. Hats off to Vinny. Madden 08, have you played it yet? Just thought I would ask. So should there be a bet at the casinos on whether Vince Young gets the Madden curse and gets hurt? Hope not, he's my fantasy QB! College football this year should be one of the best. Critics say USC is the team to beat and rightfully so but so many teams have a chance to win the National Championship this year. LSU, West Virginia, Texas, Michigan, all have great chances. Feel good story of the year will be Virginia Tech. Don't count them out of any National Championship talk. The Boise State Cinderella story team of 2007 could actually come from the same conference. Hawaii has a real good chance of going undefeated this year and being that surprise BCS team. Is it me or are there a lot of college athletes getting in trouble and suspended this year? Everyday there seems to be one or two more and it's not like they are coming from teams like Idaho or Buffalo or Temple but rather from top ten teams. That's why the BCS is so wide open this year, you don't know who will be suspended from what team at what time....that's a mouthful. Let's talk about some up coming football games. First, right off the bat we have to talk about the Nevada Wolfpack traveling to Lincoln to take on the 20th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. It's the Pack's first trip to Lincoln. No more Jeff Rowe running the offense but they have some young guns following in his footsteps. Problem here for the Pack is lack of experience at the QB. Nebraska will come after Graziano or whoever the Pack puts back there. I could see the Cornhuskers building a 21-point lead by halftime. But after a halftime speech and the butterflies leave, the Pack should make a game out of this. Number One team in the nation, the USC Trojans take on another WAC team this weekend, the Idaho Vandals. Plain and simple, the Vandals are going to get their booty kicked by John David Booty and the Trojans. Game of the Week: Tennessee vs. Cal. Revenge game for Cal, as Tennessee dashed all championship hopes the Bears had with a 35-18 victory last year. Bears want to be taken seriously by USC and the rest of the nation. They need to beat Tennessee. Can Culpepper and the Raiders start off the year right with a win over the Lions? Let's hope so, the Raider nation doesn't need another 3 or 4 win season. If the Niners want to be a playoff team they have to beat division foes. First week, they have the Arizona Cardinals. Alex Smith vs. Matt Leinart. Two up and coming QB's in this league. Two names you are going to hear for many, many years. The best time of the year is here folks. From now till February, you have football to watch. Some of you are drooling right now I know. So enjoy! Until next week, this is the Doctor, signing out!
