Quote of the Week:

The game of life is a lot like football. You have to tackle your problems, block your fears, and score your points when you get the opportunity. --Unknown

The Roll Over Bet

The Roll Over Bet is a way to make a little bit of money but you have to feel confident in what you are betting. There are many different ways you can do a roll over bet, but pick your poison and don’t get greedy and most importantly don’t chase your money! The best way to really describe this bet is to give you an example: Lets say you start with 44 units. You find a team on a Saturday morning that you want to bet on; lets say Virginia Tech –3. You lay the 44 on VT and they cover. You now have 84 units. From this bet, options arise. Option number one, you can take out 40 units and roll the rest of the money on another game. This option isn’t bad because you are going to break even for the weekend if you happen to lose a game because you have taken out your original bet minus 4 units. Plus, its always nice betting the sports books units rather than yours. Option two is just roll all the money onto the next game. Whatever option you take, you take the units and lay it on another game. And you keep doing this until you feel its time to stop or you lose. Money adds up rather quickly but can disappear just as quick. If you happen to lose, don’t chase! Plus, it’s always nice to just make straight bets rather than just parlay because you always have the option to stop at anytime. If there are 4 teams that you like but are not real sure about that 4th game, in straight bet roll over, you can stop after 3, but with a parlay, you are stuck with all 4. Remember, a smart bettor knows when to stop and also knows that breaking even is just as good as a win!

From The Nose Bleed Section:

Thoughts and questions to ponder:

-Are the Falcons for real? They don’t look very impressive but find ways to win. Don’t jump on the Vick bandwagon quite yet; remember they struggled beating Arizona 6-3. If it weren’t for Warrick Dunn, the Falcons would have like 14 points this year on offense!

-Patriots vs. Dolphins this week. Patriots are going for 19 in a row to break the record held by 5 teams, one of them being the 71-72 Dolphins. Don’t think for a minute that hapless Dolphins are going to roll over and give them the record. Look for Griese and some of the others to give them a pep talk sometime this week.

-Upset central last weekend. Cardinals thumping the Saints, and the Chargers putting a hurting on the Titans. We know McNair was out, but come on, it’s the Chargers. The Titans are in trouble starting off 1-3 especially in the division they are in. Plus, they have to go to Green Bay on Monday night. Maybe that’s a good thing because the Packers can’t win at home!

-Kurt Warner has his second life in New York. They way he is playing, Eli Manning probably wished he stayed a Charger, or maybe not. Look at poor Philip Rivers. Anybody who has never taken a snap in the NFL and holds out deserves to be on the bench behind the ageless wonder Doug Flutie on the depth chart!

NFL Free Picks

MIAMI +12.5 @ NEW ENGLAND

The Pats are going for win number 19 in a row. The Dolphins haven’t won a game yet this year. This is an easy game for the Pats right? Wrong! Out of the 5 teams tied with the NFL record 18 wins in a row, the 71-72 Fins won 18 in a row. Do you really think the Dolphins want their record broken? HELL NO! This is going to be a battle for blood and 12.5 points is way too much for this game.

TAMPA BAY +3.5 @ NEW ORLEANS

Tampa Bay lost to Denver last week while the Cardinals embarrassed the Saints. The Bucs are a dangerous team right now. They want a win and they have come close. They feel this is their week and they might be right. The Saints are still mulling over their embarrassment to the Cardinals and it’s going to carry over to this game. If Tampa Bay comes out tough, they should get their first win of the year.

ARIZONA +1 @ SAN FRANCISCO

Well, last week the 49ers finally scored. It took them 6 quarters to actually score. The Cardinals have been close in every game this year and it proved to be very helpful last week as they destroyed the Saints. Something about Dennis Green brings the best out of teams even if they are not that good…it is voodoo or something. Look for the Cardinals to still be on a high this week as they go to S.F and get another win against the hapless Niners.

DETROIT +7 @ ATLANTA

It doesn’t matter who you are, the Falcons haven’t been very impressive this year yet they are undefeated. The Lions have been more impressive this year even if you include their thumping they took against the Eagles. Detroit is coming off a bye week and they are ready to show the league they are for real and that loss to the Eagles is behind them. The Falcons are going to have to score on offense to win this game and unfortunately, their only offensive threat is Dunn. Vick can scramble but hasn’t hurt anybody with his arm. If Detroit makes Vick throw, the Lions not only will cover the spread, they could pull out a victory.

College Free Picks

ILLINOIS @ MICHIGAN STATE -7.5

Illinois is a bad team with only one good performance to date, the cover against our Purdue play. Michigan State needs this game to find some rhythm before the heart of their schedule starts. This is the confidence booster this team needs to get on a roll.

ARIZONA @ UCLA –10.5

The Bruins have looked better than anyone thought they would be. Look for the Bruins to stop Arizona when needed and the Offense to explode on this team.

WISCONSIN @ OHIO STATE –3

Trends say to take Wisconsin but there is no way that Ohio State losses two in a row. The Buckeyes will bounce back against a very tough Wisconsin team.

TEXAS @ OKLAHOMA –7

Texas vs Oklahoma. Enough said. The Sooners own this team and this year is no different than the other years.
