Top Wide Receivers

Dr. D previews the top Wide Receivers

1. Randy Moss, Raiders:

Hard not to put him as the number one receiver. One the most dominant forces in the league. Can run past you and catch a bomb. Can catch a 5 yard out and then run by you like you were standing still. Can out jump anyone in the league for that touchdown lob. And makes one handed catches seem routine. Does have a big mouth and has been know to be lazy at times but his numbers each year are always great. He will make Jerry Porter a top 5 wide receiver by the end of the year just by his presence on the field.

2. Marvin Harrison, Colts:

Mr. Consistency. Always up or over 100 catches each year. Always over 1,000 yards a year. Plus double digit touchdown receptions makes him special. May not be as athletic as Moss or Owens but has one of the best minds in the NFL. Finds the holes in the defense and exploits them. Manning and Harrison are the best QB/WR duo in the league hands down and don’t expect anything less this year.

3. Terrell Owens, Eagles:

It’s hard not to put Owens in the top 3 even with his turbulent summer and preseason. He is a total head case. He is totally hooked on himself, always wants more money, doesn’t get the ball enough, and isn’t afraid to argue with anybody including coach Reid. But his last preseason game proves how good of a WR he is. If McNabb and Owens can just work well on the field and not worry about off the field issues, Owens will have another great year.

Keep Your Eye On:

Torry Holt, Rams:

Another Mr. Consistency. About the only consistent thing the Rams have had the last few things.

Chad Johnson, Bengals:

Another year and he’ll be a top 3 WR.

Tony Gonzalez, Chiefs:

Even though he is a tight end, he still needs to be considered one of the best WR’s in the league. That’s how good he is.

Thoughts and Ponders from Dr. D:

Thoughts And Ponders

Dr. D signing in from the HooksBook, bringing you the thoughts and ponders from the past week in the NFL.

I have to bite my tongue and apologize to McNabb for what I wrote about him last week. I said McNabb was living in fantasyland if he thought Owens and him could work well together on the field and not like each other off the field. I felt the off the field dislike would run over on the field play. Then they go out and Owens has 5 catches, over 100 yards and a bomb for a TD. Hopefully it continues to work because they are fun to watch. Hey, now I know that dreams really do come true.

Sticking with the dream theme, Matt Leinart is living every man’s dream. Back to back national champs, Heisman trophy winner, and star QB walking around the campus of USC. Probably could have any girl he wants, though I’ve heard his girlfriend is hot. Passes up millions of dollars in the NFL to return for his senior season to go for a 3 peat and he’s the favorite to win the Heisman again. He’s two credits short of graduating. The class he is taking: Ballroom Dancing. Are you kidding me? Hey, when you’re a stud like Leinart, you can take any class you want and we will all still think you are the bomb.

Cedric Benson signed a 5 year contract with the Bears this week. He was the last first rounder to sign. I told you last week when he signed we would party. I’ll bring the chips and dip, who's bringing the drinks?

Hint to all you future first round draft choices: Doesn’t matter if you were a stud in college, it’s the NFL. Sign early, get your practice in so you don’t look like a high school player on the field. I’m sure Pac-Man Jones would agree after his outing against the Niners last weekend.

Some major cuts this week. Maurice Clarett was cut from the Broncos this week. Just couldn’t cut it. Yes, he was injured but too many years away from live action hurt him. Maybe another team will give him a shot.

Peter Warrick was cut from the Bengals. Once the 4th pick in the draft is now looking for a new team. He wasn’t what everyone expected but a team will pick him and give him another shot.

Peerless Price, once considered a star wide receiver who would shine in Atlanta is now out of a job. Someone will give him a shot as well.

Best wishes go out to Brett Favre and his family after his mother’s house was destroyed in Mississippi from Hurricane Katrina. Everyone was ok and that is the most important thing. But when something bad happens to Brett Favre, it seems to make him a better person which in turn makes him a better player.

Much love and support for all those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Enjoy the week as college football starts and just a week away is the start of the NFL. Excitement is running ramped throughout all the homes in America. This is Dr. D. from the HooksBook signing out for the week. Talk to you all next week with yet another thoughts and ponders coming your way.
