Stat of the Week:

I jinxed USC with the trend of 25-0 ATS under Carrol when they score over 40 points. When we printed the stat USC won again to go to 26-0 ATS but since then they have scored over 40 points twice and failed to cover both times. Sorry USC bettors.

WAC Streak to End?

Since the readers of Reno have been enjoying the information for free we thought that we would send this out to Thehooks Book customers.

This section lost last weekend to drop the record to 6-2.

College 3 Hook
Nevada +21 @ Boise State

Nevada has had two weeks to get ready and this is the game of the year for this team. The offense is starting to click but more importantly the defense is starting to shut down the run. They kept a good running team in LA Tech under 70 yards and if they can repeat that this week they will have a chance to win this game straight up.

Boise State is not the team everyone thought they would be. The only real impressive game was the Bowling Green game and well look at what Bowling Green has done. This in not their game of the year, that happens in two weeks against Fresno State. They will not bring the intensity the Wolf Pack will bring and they will be surprised how tough the Nevada defense is. I look for a close game and with 21 points you have to like your chances.

Some people will say that I am only picking Nevada because we are in Reno, to them I would say take a close look at Boise and tell me that they are 21 points better this year than Nevada. The previous years I would agree but this year I think Nevada is doing the basics to give this team a chance. They are running the ball and stopping the run while not hurting themselves with special teams. Coach Ault has had two weeks to get ready and you know he will have this team primed to pull off the upset. If the WR's of Nevada have a big game, which they should against a suspect secondary, Nevada will have the chance to come home 4-0 in the WAC.

Dr. D's Thoughts And Ponders

This is Dr. D signing in from Thehooks book bringing the best and of course the worst of the past week in football.

How bad are the 49ers? The Washington Redskins put up 52 points on them! Yes the Redskins. I know the Redskins are good this year but it’s not because of their offense. Their offense has shown up for about a total of 1 quarter all year (4th quarter against Dallas) and that’s it! But then they play the Niners, and look like the best offense in the league. Sorry Redskins, my nephew’s peewee football team could put up points against the Niners!

There were some great comebacks in the NFL this weekend, 5 to be precise. Some won by a field goal at the end, other’s won by a touchdown pass with seconds to go and even a victory off a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown. This was an exciting day of football, that’s why we watch it till the end.

What has happened to Favre and the Packers? Favre in the past would have never let his team lose to the Vikings like they did on Sunday. This isn’t the same Brett Favre we’ve come to love (or hate).

Last week I talked about what if Temple and Ball St. played each other? How about this? It’s a four-team playoff. The teams are Temple, Ball St., 49ers, and the Texans. Temple/Ball St. winner takes on the 49ers/Texans winner. Winner takes all. Winner basically gets to say they are better than the other 3 but they still stink compared to everyone else.

Let’s take that playoff one more step. The losers of both the games play each other. Whoever loses that one will be crowned the “Worst team in the Nation” award. Pay-Per-View would bite at that in a minute!

Texas jumped over USC in the BCS poll. Everyone is making a big deal about it but I really think neither team cares. In fact, there is more pressure on Texas now than USC to perform now. Texas is considered the better team, BCS wise anyway, so they have to just go out and dominate people. Not saying USC doesn’t, but this could be just what USC wants to happen.

News Flash: USC actually played a good first half and was up at halftime against Washington. End News Flash.

Is Alabama this good or are they just that lucky? My response, a great mix of both!

Question of the Week: How many college teams could beat either the 49ers or Texans?

LT ran for 7 yards last week against the Eagles! 7! No not seven touchdowns or even one touchdown, 7 yards! So he is human after all.

How about this score on Saturday: North Carolina 7 Virginia 5. Wasn’t there a World Series game that had more runs this year? Scary part is, both these teams still scored more than the Niners!

I know this isn’t football but congrats to the World Series Champion White Sox. How many people picked them to go all the way this year?

Game of the Week: Chiefs vs. Chargers. LT is pissed his touchdown record fell, so look for him to have a big game. And don’t forget about the two-headed monster in the backfield for the Chiefs with Holmes and Johnson. Both those guys are capable of scoring 4 times each in a game…just ask the Falcons.

Well folks, I have dissed enough teams this week (especially the Niners) so this is Dr. D signing out from Thehooks book telling you to enjoy your weekend and remember the game is never over till the final whistle blows, unless you are playing the Niners where you are pretty much a winner once you step on the field.

Thehooks Press Release
Weekly Radio debuts this Saturday

Thehooks Football Picks announced that the first show of Thehooks handicapping show hosted by Dr. D airs this Saturday in Reno, Nevada on 1270 am, KBZZ. The show will air at 8 am and run one hour every Saturday for the next ten weeks.

"This is a great opportunity for the betting public to listen live to Dr. D and call in their opinions of the top games of the week," said Leo Mendelsohn of Thehooks, "we want the show to be an extension of our site. We have had the opportunity to be in the Reno Gazette Journal every Thursday in The Great Handicapper Challenge written by Dan Hinxman and now will be able to talk live to local bettors.

We really want this to become the Northern Nevada Handicapping show with feedback from listeners and opinions from as many people as possible. There are too many shows out there that give you their opinion, which we will be sure to give you ours but we want the listeners of Northern Nevada to speak their mind too."

Thehooks and KBZZ are teaming up with Leroy’s Sports Book to bring the weekly show.

"We are going to start with a one hour show and possibly go to a two hour show if everything lines up correctly," said Briane Mendelsohn, "Dr. D, a featured critic at www.thesportscritic.com, has developed a following on the internet and this will give the local people a chance to hear him live. I think people are going to tune in to hear what he has to say and within a few months will develop a following and perhaps this will become a show for all sports handicapping and not just football."

To listen to Thehooks football handicapping show tune into 1270 The BUZZ this Saturday.
