Stat of the Week:

The once mighty San Francisco 49ers over/under for total wins for the year has been listed at 4.5 for the 2005 season. The times have changed but that total might be too low.

Free Football Contests

Thehooks is offering free football contests this year. One entry per email address to each contest.

NFL Preseason Football Contest

Entry Deadline is: August 5th.

Each entry picks one team that they think will go undefeated in PRESEASON.

The winners will receive the first 4 weeks of our service backed by our 60% guarantee. Which means if we fall short of the 60% then you would receive the next 4 weeks for free until we do hit the 60% guarantee. (Value is $80) Notice we stated WINNERS, that is because there are no tie-breakers in the football betting contest. You pick an undefeated team in the preseason and you are a winner.

NFL Regular Football Contest

Entry Deadline is: September 7th.

Each entry picks one team that they think will have the best record (NFL #1 Seed for Playoffs) at the end of the Season.

The winners will receive Thehooks Playoff Package for Free. (Value is $75) Notice we stated WINNERS, that is because there are no tie-breakers in the football contest. Last year if we would have ran this contest and 200 people picked Pittsburgh, then all 200 would have won our NFL Playoff Package.

NFL Fantasy Football Contest

Entry Deadline is: September 7th.

Each entry picks one player that they think will have the most fantasy points at the end of the Regular Season.

We will use Yahoo fantasy sports to decide the points for us. The points on Yahoo Sports will be the final count for the winner.

TD Touchdown (pass, rush or rec) 6 points each
Pass Yds Passing Yards 1 point per 50 yards
Int Interceptions Thrown -2 points each
Rush Yds Rushing Yards 1 point per 20 yards
Rec Yds Receiving Yards 1 point per 20 yards
2-PT Two-point Conversions 2 points each
Fum Lost Fumble Lost -2 points each

We have taken out the highest ranked players and sprinkled in 15 players that were all within 50 points of each other last year. It would be too easy for everyone to pick Peyton Manning so we threw out the top 10 players.

The winners will receive Thehooks Playoff Package for Free. (Value is $75) Notice we stated WINNERS, that is because there are no tie-breakers in the football contest.

The only requirement we have is that you sign up for our ezine, Thehooks Book. This is a weekly ezine filled with free football picks and interesting betting information. There are no big flashing banners or ad, just good stuff for the betting public. If you do not like the ezine you can terminate the subscription after one issue. This will not have any effect on your chances to win.

Our current customers are automatically eligible to enter all the football contests. All the current customers need to do is enter before the deadline date.

How Many Contests?

Each email address is allowed to enter all the contests. So you can enter our preseason contest, regular season contest, fantasy football contest, and all the weekly contests during the year. You only have to subscribe once to Thehooks Book for each email addresses.

Thehooks Book

We only use your email address for Thehooks Book and the football contest, we do not sell or exchange emails with other companies. Because of this, only loyal customers receive Thehooks Book and we are proud to say that most of our ezine customers actually open and read the information we send them.

We do not spam you with junk. This is a quality weekly football betting ezine that you will enjoy, and it also has free football picks by us and other quality handicappers.

Thoughts and Ponders:
Top Five NFL Quarterbacks

1. NFL Quarterback - Peyton Manning, Colts

This is a no brainer. If this review was based solely on athletic ability, Manning wouldn?t be number one. But we are talking about all around quarterback and there is no one that compares to Manning. He is the smartest quarterback, one of the most precise quarterback, and easily one of the best quarterbacks to come around in a while. Look for Peyton to challenge his own TD record again this year.

2. NFL Quarterback - Tom Brady, Patriots

Again, not the most athletic quarterback in the league but one of the smartest. This guy knows how to win. He has three super bowl rings to prove it. May not always have the big numbers like other quarterbacks like Manning or Favre, but it's hard to go against a guy who knows how to win. When you have a quarterback that?s a proven winner, the confidence of the entire team goes up. Brady, just like Manning, makes his team that much better.

3. NFL Quarterback - Daunte Culpepper, Vikings

The new age quarterback of the NFL: can beat you with his arm and legs. Had a great year last year and will only get better this year. A very accurate quarterback who is prone to make a few mistakes but with all the big plays he makes it up in a big way. Even with the loss of Moss, Culpepper?s numbers will increase from last year. Look for Culpepper to have another great year and help the Vikings be contenders.

4. NFL Quarterback - Donovan McNabb, Eagles

Finally, McNabb got the monkey off his back and got his team past the NFC championship to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the Eagles were beat by Brady and the Patriots. Now, McNabb knows how to win and look for him to get better. With the addition of Owens last year, McNabb was able to open up the arsenal and throw deep. McNabb is another one of those new age quarterbacks who can beat you many different ways. The Eagles will contend again this year and look for McNabb to have another superb year.

5. NFL Quarterback - Brett Favre, Packers

Easily one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game. This man has a cannon for an arm and makes some hard passes look easy. Of course, he is a risk taker and does make some mistakes but you can always count on him in the clutch. He is one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the league right now and it?s hard to keep him off the list. Look for yet another solid year for Favre.

The Rest:

Michael Vick, Falcons

Still more of a running back than a quarterback. One more year playing and he?ll be a top 3 QB.

Byron Leftwich, Jaguars

Still learning the ropes of a NFL quarterback but may be one of the strongest quarterbacks in the league.

Matt Hasselbeck, Seahawks

Needs to regain his confidence he had from 2 years ago. If he does, the Seahawks will contend

Drew Brees, Chargers

Needs to show that last year wasn?t a fluke. If he does, the Chargers will be for real again.
