COLLEGE 5 HOOKS
THE PICK	California –11.5

California –11.5 @ Texas Tech

Holiday Bowl

Taking nothing away from T.T. but California is going to destroy this team. California is probably the worst team to play in the bowls right now. Right now, they hate the BCS system. This team is easily the 4th best team in the NCAA right now. There is no way Texas should have climbed over them and taken the Rose Bowl away from them. The last week of the year and California beats Southern Miss and drops in the rankings. Now granted, they didn’t destroy Southern Miss but Southern Miss is a bowl team. California is going to take out their frustrations on a very good Texas Tech team. California is going to make Texas Tech look like a high school team by the time they are done with them. They are going to play this game with all their hearts and show all the BCS voters, they made a big mistake!

THE PICK	Purdue –7

Arizona State @ Purdue –7

Sun Bowl

Purdue was BCS team before the bad decision of Overton to dive instead of the slide. His fumble gave Wisconsin the game and then the injuries took their toll on the early heisman candidate. Overton had a great game against Indiana and pulled out the win against Ohio State. He is ready to finish off his career in style. This is a team that could have been in the BCS if injuries and luck had been on their side. They will hang 60 plus points on Arizona State and make this a blowout from the beginning. Arizona State has little chance, especially if Walters is not 100%.

THE PICK	Louisville –14

Boise State @ Louisville –14

MPC Computers Bowl

Boy it is a big number and Vegas is begging for you to bite and take the Broncos plus the 14 points. Hey, an undefeated team getting 14 points is too easy. Wake up and take a deep look at the teams. Boise State has had better teams the past two years than this current team. They just happened to play in a weak conference and quite honestly got lucky to go undefeated. This is a great Louisville team that is only one half away from being undefeated. They are faster, bigger and more motivated than the Broncos. The Cardinals are the complete team and will outclass the Broncos. So before you even think about taking the points remember that this game is not in Boise and position by position Louisville is a much more talented team.

Boston College +3 @ North Carolina

Continental Bowl

Just listen to the head coach of Boston College and remember that this team is 5-0 ATS the past 5 bowl games and you will realize that this is the play. "We played so well all year and we don't want our season to be defined by one football game. This team accomplished a lot; we won on the road at Notre Dame and West Virginia. Now we are going to have to go on the road and win at Carolina because it will be a home game for them. It is something we have to do. It was very uncharacteristic of our football team to play the way we played in our last game. A lot of comparisons have been made to this team and the '84 team. Our best player didn't play on Saturday. He was standing next to me on the sidelines. It would have made a difference last Saturday and he will make a difference on the 30th of December.” Yes Peterson is throwing and he will be the difference. Boston College to win outright.

Utah –16.5 @ Pittsburgh

Fiesta Bowl

Utah is out to prove they deserved the at large BCS bid. Pittsburgh showed that no matter what; don’t give up on a season. After starting the season off poorly, Pittsburgh got hot at the right time and ended up winning the Big East, which gave them an automatic BCS bid. But this is where Pitts hot streak will come to an end. Alex Smith ended 4th in the Heisman Trophy race and has taken his Utes to a perfect season. He wants to show everyone in the nation that the Utah Utes are for real. This will be high-powered, points on the scoreboard game. Pittsburgh will have trouble keeping up with Utah and will fall behind early and won’t be able to keep up.

THE PICK	Auburn –7

Auburn –7 vs. Virginia Tech

Sugar Bowl

Auburn is just like California when it comes for their hatred of the BCS. Auburn believes they should have been in the National Championship game instead of Oklahoma. Are they right? As long as the BCS is in place, we will never know. But one thing is for sure for Auburn, if they beat V.T., a lot of people will be rethinking their votes. If Auburn comes out and smokes V.T. and USC smokes Oklahoma, a lot of people would be begging for a USC vs. Auburn game. They wouldn’t get it and Auburn would be screwed because they won’t even get a share of the championship. Auburn wants to make all the voters regret their decision to leave them out of the national championship. Auburn wants to come out and man handle the Hokies. This will be a great game but in the end, Auburn will get a victory.

Outback Bowl

Georgia was a team that was going to challenge for the National Championship. They destroyed LSU and everyone was in fear of Georgia. Then a loss to Tennessee changed everything. Then they met up with Auburn and Auburn made Georgia look pathetic. An up and down season was the name of the game for Wisconsin. They beat some solid teams and lost to some so-so teams. One thing you will find in common with these two teams: Points. They are capable of putting points on the scoreboard. They have solid defenses as well but their offenses will shine in this game. Look for the offenses to outshine the defenses and the points will flow.

THE PICK	Florida St. -8

Florida St. -8 @ West Virginia

Gator Bowl

Two teams that had huge expectations at the beginning of the year who neither one of them met them. Both teams were going to be National Championship contenders but neither was close. Florida St. didn't look anything like a champ after the first week giving up a 4th quarter lead to Miami. West Virginia looked good till they met Virginia Tech and after that, the West Virginia slide began. A loss to Pitt at the end of the year ended their BCS bowl game chance and this year is a failure to them. Florida St. has something to prove and will destroy West Virginia.

Capital One Bowl

The Capital One Bowl is known for Overs. It doesn't matter if 2 defensive teams come to play this bowl; offenses shine. Both these teams have both solid defenses but they also have good offenses. LSU shared the National Championship last year but weren't the same team this year. They were destroyed by Georgia and everything came back to reality for them. Iowa was an up and down team this year and not just wins and losses. This team could score 9 points and win or score 40 points and win. LSU has a solid offense this year and can put points on the board. Their defense wasn't as strong as it was last year. This game will be a game of touchdowns and not field goals. Look for an OVER.

THE PICK	Oklahoma State -2

Ohio @ Oklahoma State -2

Alamo Bowl

Oklahoma State should be able to run on Ohio State and do enough to slow down the Buckeye offense. Morency will be at 100% and Woods is a very dangerous QB that will give Ohio State fits all day. The Buckeyes come off their best performance and the Cowboys come in licking their wounds. We do not see Smith tearing apart the Cowboy secondary like he did against Michigan and that will make things a little easier for Ohio State to run the ball. Take the Cowboys to take care of the Buckeyes.

Wisconsin +7 @ Georgia

Outback Bowl

Georgia will look to finish David Greens career off with a win against a tough Wisconsin defense. Green will find the going tough and will be treated rudely by the front 7 of the Badgers. Wisconsin will be able to run the ball and could win this thing outright. Take the points in what will be an entertaining game with more points scored than what everyone is expecting.

Insight Bowl

Notre Dame is a mess right now and the Beavers will be happy to crush the Irish again. Anderson will look to go deep against the Irish and the tough Beaver defense will make life miserable for Quinn. Anderson has been up and down his entire career but will end his career on a positive note tossing 4 or more touchdowns and the underrated Beaver defense will have a blast beating up Notre Dame. We like Oregon State to win this one rather easily.

They will not only outclass this team but they will hang over 63 on them. Boise State will score 21-35 points as they try to stay up with the Cardinal machine but the Cardinals might out score the Bronco offense with their special teams and defense. Don’t blink, you might miss two scores by the Cardinals. Vegas has set the number way up there to see if you will take the under. Louisville and the OVER is the play, do not take the easy way out with Boise State and the UNDER. Cardinals will pour it on and make a push for the top 4 in the final rankings.

Houston Bowl

This is the happy go lucky game of the holidays. Both teams are just happy to be here and have no pressure to win. The offenses will dominate and make this a very high scoring and entertaining game. The playbook will be open for both teams. UTEP has given up a ton of points this year and we do not see that trend stopping now. Look for trick plays galore from UTEP and for the Buffaloes to run and pass at will against a weak defense. Grab a cold one and enjoy this game.

Defense will rule this game. Everyone will talk about Leak and Berlin but this game will come down to who can win the field position game and who has the least amount of turnovers. The first one to 20 will win this game as the total will never be threatened.
