COLLEGE 5 HOOKS
THE PICK Toledo -22.5

College 5 Hook
Western Michigan @ Toledo -22

Toledo’s offense is one of the best in the nation. I know they play in the MAC but unless a team has a great defensive line to harass Bruce Gradkowski, this offense will hang 45 on you. They also can run the ball and have depth at the running back position. Toledo will score more than enough to cover the 23 points.

Western Michigan played hard last week against Virginia but the Caveliers were bored and do not have the big strike attack Toledo has. Virginia was up 24-3 and then went to sleep. Toledo will not go to sleep; they will keep piling on the points until the gun stops the bleeding.

Toledo is 3-0 ATS the past three years against Western Michigan and will make it four straight with a convincing win this weekend.

WINNER
Toledo 56 W. Michigan 23

Toledo 56 - W. Michigan 23

Bruce Gradkowski threw three touchdown passes in the first half and Toledo was up 35-0 and never looked back. This offense is special and will be hard to stop all year. They can run and we all know Gradkowski can throw the rock. The Rockets finished with over 600 total yards.

There was a line movement towards Western Michigan because they scored some late points against Virginia last week. We warned people that Toledo would not let up like Virginia and we were right.

COLLEGE 4 HOOKS
THE PICK Texas +1

College 4 Hook
Texas +1@ Ohio St

What a game in week 2 of college football. Number 2 Texas visits number 6 Ohio St. National title hopes are on the line in just week 2. Not saying whoever loses this game has no shot but who ever wins this game will prove to the nation, they might be the team to dethrone USC.

This is such a great game, it will just be one that you can watch from start to finish and hope it lasts forever. Both teams looked solid last week. Texas destroyed La Lafayette 60-3 and Ohio St looked great against Miami (OH) 32-14. This is going to be a great game but Texas is the more athletic team and that will be the main difference. Vince Young will be the main difference in this game using both his arm and his legs to pick apart Ohio St. There will be no blowout in this game but Texas will prove to the nation they are the team to beat besides USC.

Texas will go home with a big victory in these teams first meeting ever.

WINNER
Texas 26 Ohio State 23

Texas 26 - Ohio State 23

This game lived up to the hype from opening kickoff to the last tick on the clock. Texas goes into the Horseshoe and comes out with a victory. A tough battle the whole game. Vince Young looked good in the beginning, then was getting beat up in the middle but came up big at the end and that’s when it counted. This game could have gone either way with Texas stopping Ohio St 3 times in the red zone holding them to field goals. And lets not remember the missed field goal by Ohio St. Texas comes out with the hard fought victory.

COLLEGE 4 HOOKS
THE PICK UNR/Wash. St. Over 59

College 4 Hook
Nevada/Washington State Over 59

Nevada will put points on the board and I consider them one of the top 35 offenses in the nation. If the offensive line pans out this unit could be special. You will not find a better core of wide receivers in the nation. I am not kidding, these WR's will be all over the place and at the end of the season people will be talking about WR's of Nevada as an elite group. I was critical of QB Rowe last year but he turned it on at the end and should have a breakout year. The defense has a lot to prove and will be thin this week in the secondary which points to an over for the game.

Washington State put up 38 against Idaho and hurt them with the long ball. I see them hitting a couple of deep passes and will find room to run the ball. The game should see both teams in the 30 plus points and if the Cougars are not ready, Nevada could pull off the upset. Friday night, on ESPN, and it is the home opener. What more could you ask for? Go Wolfpack!

WINNER
Washington State 55 Nevada 21

Nevada 21 - Washington State 55

Washington State did exactly what we thought they would do but the Wolfpack struggled against a weak secondary. Having Flowers, the best receiver in the WAC, standing on the sidelines hurt the offense of Nevada. Even when he came in he was more of a decoy than a factor. He really must have pissed off Coach Ault.

The Cougars looked good on offense but I think it had more to do with Nevada looking bad on defense. If Washington State can run the ball like this all year, then they will be on their way to a Bowl.

COLLEGE 3 HOOKS
THE PICK Auburn -15

College 4 Hook
Mississippi St @ Auburn -15

Mississippi St. travels to play Auburn this week. This might not be the best time for Miss. St. to be visiting Auburn. Auburn, who many believed was snubbed last year by not getting into the national championship was beat at home by Georgia Tech 23-14. The thought of being national champs this year is now over for Auburn.

Auburn had to replace basically their entire backfield from a year ago and it showed last week. This team was not ready to play. But this week is a new week, and they will be ready to play come Saturday. I’m sure they did plenty of practicing this week, and they will be more prepared for Miss. St. Look for Auburn to be hungry for a big victory this week.

Trends: Favorite in this series has covered the spread 10 out of the last 12 times.

Look for Auburn to come out and try and manhandle Mississippi State. The pick here is Auburn.

WINNER
Auburn 28 Mississippi St 0

Auburn 28 - Mississippi 0

Auburn showed up this week and showed the nation that they are still a good team. They got rid of the first game jitters from a week ago and shut out Mississippi St. Auburn may not be as good as they were a year ago but they are still a solid team and nobody should over look them. Mississippi St. will agree here.

COLLEGE 3 HOOKS
THE PICK Bowling Green -28.5

College 3 Hook
Bowling Green -28.5 @ Ball St.

Bowling Green travels to play Ball St. to take on the suspension riddled team. Bowling Green will look to rebuild after their beating by Wisconsin last week. Ball St. is just looking to put some points on the board as they were shutout by Iowa last week.

Bowling Green looked solid last week even though they were beat by Wisconsin, 56-42. This is a team that will put up points galore against any team that steps in their way. Ball St. on the other hand is struggling this year with a bunch of their players suspended. Iowa put a hurting on them last week shutting out Ball St. 56-0. Ball St. was even a 40 point underdog. Bowling Green should have no problem putting points on the board against this struggling team. Bowling Green should even up their record by the end of this game.

This game is hard to find a line on. I have found it on one board with Bowling Green as 30 point favorites. I could see this line going as high as 35. Anything higher than that, I would lay off the game.

LOSER
Bowling Green 40 Ball State 31

Bowling Green 40 Ball St. 31

There are a few things to think about this game. Bowling Green played Wisconsin tough last week but I guess I didn’t think too highly of Ball St. Ball St. was destroyed by Iowa 56-0 last week. I really don’t know what to think of this game. Either Ball St. improved from last week or Bowling Green became a little worse. Either way you look at it, Bowling Green didn’t even come close to covering the spread.

COLLEGE 3 HOOKS
THE PICK Colorado -24

College 3 Hook
New Mexico State @ Colorado -24

Talent wise Colorado is 10 times better than New Mexico State. They will be able to run, throw and have a few big plays on special teams this week. They will also probably have 3 or more interceptions as the offense of New Mexico State still adjusts to the passing schemes of Coach Mumme.

UTEP was up 31-0 last week at New Mexico State and then let up. New Mexico State travels to Colorado where they will not let up after they are up by 31 plus points. Mentally, the players have to be asking why are we even playing this game after Coach Mumme came out and said that he will not play this tough of a schedule in the upcoming seasons. With in-state rival New Mexico on deck I do not see this team ready to play or even this coaching staff coaching to win this game.

WINNER
Colorado 39 New Mexico State 0

Colorado 39 - New Mexico State 0

Colorado could have named this score. This was a total mismatch. New Mexico State was never in the game. I wish all the games I handicap could be this easy. I can see why Coach Mumme wants to play a softer nonconference schedule in the future. At least he could try to convince this year's squad to step it up in competition or else next week will be just as ugly.

I do not think Colorado can take anything out of this game except that the University paid for an easy victory.

COLLEGE 3 HOOKS
THE PICK Texas Tech -35

College 3 Hook
Florida International @Texas Tech -35

This is Texas Tech’s home opener of the season against a Florida International team that played Kansas State last week. Texas Tech wants to come out firing on all cylinders proving they are going to be a tough team to beat in the Big 12.

Last week, Florida International played Kansas State tough all the way to the end. But Kansas State is no Texas Tech. Texas Tech has one of the highest powered offenses in the nation. Doesn’t matter who they put at QB, they will shine in this pass happy offense. Maybe the scariest part of their offense is their underrated RB Henderson. With a solid QB and RB combo, this team will shine all year long. Look for Texas Tech to cover this high spread.

Though this is a 35 point spread, Texas Tech’s offense is too high powered for Florida International to stop. Texas Tech will cover this spread.

WINNER
Texas Tech 56 Florida International 3

Texas Tech 56 - Florida International 3

Texas Tech looked impressive in their first game of the season just coming out and destroying Florida International. Doesn’t matter who plays quarterback for the Red Raiders, they seem to succeed in a pass happy offense. Cody Hodges threw for over 450 yards and also ran for 44 yards. Yet another quarterback looks like he is going to thrive in this offense. At least he did last week.
