College Football Picks Week 8 Texas Tech -11 @ Baylor Even on the road I am picking Texas Tech minus the 11 points because they have owned Baylor the past few years and are the superior team. They have scored over 60 points 3 of the past 4 years and will again approach 60 points. Baylor is improved but they have not played an offensive team yet this year. This will be the first test for the defense and when the defense fails the offense will be tested to stay up with Texas Tech. They will fail both tests and get crushed this weekend. They will stick around for about a quarter but will be able to match the offense the Red Raiders are going to throw at them. Baylor is a nice story but this is not about picking the good stories, it is about picking winners and putting money in our pockets. The previous 3 teams to lose to Texas have come back the following week and won straight up and ATS. Texas crushed Texas Tech last week so look for Texas Tech to make that 4 in a row to win and cover after getting blasted by the Longhorns.
College Football Picks Week 8 Texas Tech 28 - Baylor 0 Texas Tech was only up 6-0 going into the 4th quarter and I have to admit that I was wrong about the Baylor defense because they played an outstanding game. Tech played a great game on defense and completely shut down Baylor. The final score of 28-0 does not tell the truth and I am thankful for the victory.
College Football Picks Week 8 TCU -6.5 @ San Diego State TCU QB Jeff Ballard has been one of the league's best playmakers while taking the offense to another level since the injury to Tye Gunn. TCU has won the last 4 games by double digits and should be able to dispose of the Aztecs this week. The Aztecs will struggle to get TCU off the field and will find itself worn down by the rushing attack of TCU. The Aztecs are an unpredictable team that I thought would be a lot than have shown. Don't be surprised if they come out and play a great game but even their best game will still find them losing by more than 10 points.
College Football Picks Week 8 TCU 23 - San Diego 20 TCU turned the ball over every 3 minutes in the first half, or at least that is how it seemed. Then when they get up 20-13 and have to settle for a field goal you knew that the defense would play soft and let the Aztecs score because they were two scores up. We would have covered if the score would have stayed 20-13 because then TCU would not have let San Diego drive down the field.
College Football Picks Week 8 Boston College @ Virginia Tech -13 Boston College is on the road this week as the travel to take on the Hokies on a Thursday Night special. Virginia Tech roughed up Maryland last Thursday Night and they will look to do the same to B.C. this Thursday. B.C. is coming off a bye week and has two weeks to prepare for the 3rd ranked Hokies. All the preparation in the world won’t help B.C. this week. Yes, I will agree they are a strong team but they are not the same caliber as V.T. Virginia Tech has proved to everyone they need to be considered as a National Title contender. B.C. is out to prove differently but it won’t happen. Marcus Vick is playing too good right now and he just seems to get better and better each week. Plus, Virginia Tech does not lose on Thursday Nights. They love playing on Thursdays and the straight up record as well as against the spread record shows. Take the Hokies.

College Football Picks Week 8 Arizona @ Oregon St. -8.5 The Cats of U of A leave the warm weather of Tucson and head to the chilly state of Oregon to take on the Beavers. This is the Beaver’s homecoming game. Everybody knew that Arizona would struggle this year like they have for god knows how many years. People were a bit surprised to see the Beavers struggle. The thumping Louisville put on them early in the season took quite a few weeks to get over. Their win over Cal a few weeks ago was not a fluke. They are tough team that just needed to get over a bad loss. Now it’s homecoming, the fans are coming to see a whooppin’ and I see one coming as well. Take the Beavers.

College Football Picks Week 8 Wisconsin -20 @ Illinois The Badgers look to keep their chances of some sort of tie to the conference title as they travel to take on Illinois this week. This game is a bit scary. We all know that the Badgers offense is one of the tops in the nation. They have no problem running the ball or throwing the ball. It’s not their offense that is struggling. It’s the defense that scares many people in this game. Illinois is no slouch in the offense category and people think they can score enough against this defense to keep this game close. Even though their defense is poor, they will still cover the spread by offense alone. Illinois’ offense is nothing like Northwestern who had a shootout against Wisconsin a few weeks ago. I think Wisconsin knows that they can’t lay down on offense when they get a lead because their defense gives up points. Look for Wisconsin to score as much as possible for as long as possible and in the end, Illinois won’t have the fire power and will run out of chances in the second half. Take the Badgers to win this game big

College Football Picks Week 8 UCLA -7 @ Stanford The Bruins travel to Palo Alto to take on the Cardinal of Stanford. Stanford looks for it’s 2nd straight upset. Another game people are weary about. Questions have come out about UCLA. Are they overlooking this game getting ready for USC? Or how about Stanford? They put a hurting on Arizona St. last weekend at home. People worry about this game big time. Me on the other hand, not at all. I think the thumping Stanford put on Arizona St. opened up UCLA’s eyes. If Stanford doesn’t beat Arizona St last weekend, UCLA overlooks this game and has a chance of getting beat. But with Stanford not only winning but also winning convincingly UCLA has no reason to overlook. They realize that if they overlook this game, the USC game will mean nothing. UCLA wants to come into Stanford and put a hurting on Stanford. With a big win, people at USC will be opening their eyes quite wide because a little worry will be settling in their stomachs. No overlooking this game, the Bruins win. Take the Bruins

College Football Picks Week 8 Nevada +21 @ Boise State Nevada has had two weeks to get ready and this is the game of the year for this team. The offense is starting to click but more importantly the defense is starting to shut down the run. They kept a good running team in LA Tech under 70 yards and if they can repeat that this week they will have a chance to win this game straight up. Boise State is not the team everyone thought they would be. The only real impressive game was the Bowling Green game and well look at what Bowling Green has done. This in not their game of the year, that happens in two weeks against Fresno State. They will not bring the intensity the Wolf Pack will bring and they will be surprised how tough the Nevada defense is. I look for a close game and with 21 points you have to like your chances. Some people will say that I am only picking Nevada because we are in Reno, to them I would say take a close look at Boise and tell me that they are 21 points better this year than Nevada. The previous years I would agree but this year I think Nevada is doing the basics to give this team a chance. They are running the ball and stopping the run while not hurting themselves with special teams. Coach Ault has had two weeks to get ready and you know he will have this team primed to pull off the upset. If the WR's of Nevada have a big game, which they should against a suspect secondary, Nevada will have the chance to come home 4-0 in the WAC.
College Football Picks Week 8 Boise State 49 - Nevada 14 Okay the score looks bad but, and yes I have a complaint about this game. Nevada was inside the 10 twice in the first half and did not put any points on the board. Then when they had two more opportunities to score they squandered them too. The game kind of snowballed in the 3rd quarter out of control but realistically the score at half time should have, could have been Boise State 21 - Nevada 17 instead of 21-7. I know Nevada could not stop the run but Boise could not stop Nevada until they got in the red zone. Damn it all to hell.
