Football Previews Week 2

College:
Game: Notre Dame at Michigan (Thursday 9/13 3:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: Michigan -7.5


Notre Dame comes to the Big House and this game has lost its luster from a fan's perspective, but not from the school's perspective. Ryan Mallett will start at QB for the Wolverines, and as strange as it sounds, may be the infusion of energy this team needs. They have a rallying point to look to. Think they have mailed it in? NOT! RB Mike Hart, guaranteed a victory against the Irish, so they are coming to play. If you remember back to 1998, Michigan opened with losses to Notre Dame, and Syracuse, and went on to win the Big Ten Championship. The problem has been the defense, and one of the big differences here, is the Notre Dame offense. They are led by a FR. QB in Jimmy Clausen. The defense struggled against mobile QB's running out of a spread offense, and that is not what Notre Dame is behind Clausen. This is a Michigan team that was ranked in the top 5 in the country, so you know the talent is there, and this is a ND team that was expected to struggle, and they have. Notre Dame used 3 QB's vs Georgia Tech, but they can't move the ball. They also could do nothing against Penn St., and the result is 13 points in 2 weeks. The defense was also shreaded apart, allowing almost 1,100 yards in the 2 games. Hart will get a chance to back-up his prediction, because he is gonna get a lot of carries, and Notre Dame can't stop either the run or the pass. We would be surprised if this game is within 2 TD's because it is more likely to be a blow-out Michigan win.

NFL:
Game: San Diego at New England (Thursday 9/13 8:15 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on San Diego +3.5


Can you say REVENGE? This season the Chargers don't have the coach that can turn a win, into a loss, and have a hungry team that thought they belonged in the Superbowl, but the Pats had something to say about that. Remember the Patroits dancing on the logo at midfield after the game? This will be a fired up very good Charger team, putting forth it's best effort in this one. The one thing the Pats won't have is their ice cold New England weather as their 12th man, it will be great football weather with gametime temperatures in the high 50s, low 60s. The Pats have this mystique of being a very dominant team at home, and that is because they have dominated at home in the playoffs, and the assumption is, they are a great play at home. It is actually quite the contrary, they are just 6-10 ATS during the regular season, over the last 2 years. San Diego is the better team, and the better team has a lot of motivational factors at work here for this one, and we will ride a very live dog here.

I look for agreement between all of my sources which results in a few games selected, but they are the cream of the crop.
